September 2009 - Hi everyone, the weather here has been so beautiful its inspired us to get into the recording process again and capture the band as a five piece. Bill and I have been busy writing new songs.  August saw the addition of our fifth member Mary Cannon on Tin Whistle and Flute. Mary is also a great set formation organiser for the bush dances I might add!

We have been playing in some lovely places again, including a gorgeous bush dance wedding at Federal, where spring was definitely in the air.

We are looking forward to playing at the Akoostik festival on the 17th October at Wingham, it looks like a great place to play at and visit.

Don't forget to check out our MySpace page, till next time, Cheers Liz

April 2009  Hi everyone; We've had a very busy December and January with lots of amazing opportunities to play music in many varied places. In December we were invited to play for the Multitask Showcase of Ability, as part of the International Day of People with a Disability, it was a fantastic day, we ran a bush dance and it was great to see everyone having so much fun.

We then headed off to Woodford Folk Festival in December amid massive traffic jams!. We made it with just enough time to pitch the tent before we played, however we had forgotten to pack the fly part of the tent, all would of been ok if the weather was fine, but about that later. We ran guided jam sessions in the Blues Bar for three days, it was a great venue,very relaxed environment. Each day was different with lots of people joining in with varied instruments to jam with. Thanks to everyone who came to sing, play and enjoy the good jamming vibe. We saw some great acts as well, we danced the night away to Psycho Zydeco amid a massive storm. When we returned to our tent about 1.30am our tent was a crumpled mess with Bills mobile phone floating about in the bottom of the tent. we spent the night in Bills tiny car, it was good to see the sunrise  at 5.15 !

January saw us heading off to the Cygnet Folk Festival in Tasmania. My accordion got "modified" by baggage handlers on the way down, with only two days to find another accordion we scoured the music shops in Hobart, and finally found a really old accordion in a secondhand shop covered in dust, it did the trick though getting us through the gigs. We had two great gigs ,the Saturday night we were on after the 7 piece African Fula Band who had the place pumping, we were a little worried as we are a four piece with no drum kit as such, but the audience went off, the best audience ever. Thanks everyone for making such a special night.

Hugo and I were very lucky to attend a Masterclass with Ronan Martin (Isle of Skye fiddler) and Sandy Brechin (Scottish accordionist).  It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from such amazing musicians.
While we were there we headed over to Bruny Island for some sightseeing with our new found friend Christel. We took a ride on the Bruny Island Charter Tour and had a fantastic day. Thrillbilly Stomp crossed into the southern ocean! We played a gig in Margate at the beautiful Brookfield Vineyard thanks Helen for your hospitality. Photos of our Tassie trip can be seen on the stompers gallery.

Till next time Liz .
P.s    We are heading into the Old Dog Studio in April to begin recording our album, will keep you posted.

September 2008 -  How's it been going. Quite a few things have happened since the last time we updated the news and it's mostly been good. Firstly we've been invited to  play at the Cygnet Folk Festival in Tasmania (click the blue links to find out more) next January and the Woodford Folk Festival at the end of the year. It'll be a lot of fun and we're really looking forward to it. Secondly we've been joined by a very talented young chap by the name of Matt Elliot. Not only is Matt a fine drummer but he is also a very accomplished guitarist and banjo player.

==================

P.S. When we are busking & at Gigs, lots of people have made videos and taken pictures with cameras and mobile phones of us while we are playing. If you are one of those people we 'd love to have a look so please email us. Also there is a Stompers Gallery for your Pics if you would like to see some of them up see link at left.Cheers,

Thrillbilly Stomp.

A Review from the Dunoon Gazette Newspaper from the recent Bush Dance for Pics or more please click link here  Dunnon Gazette.

Dunoon Sports and Rec Club’s bush dance, held on Saturday 6th September, was a foot-stomping, thigh-slapping success! There were many new faces among the crowd of usual members and guests. It was wonderful to see so many people on the dance floor - from toddlers to octogenarians. The kids were the first to get up of course - some of the adults needed a little liquid encouragement before they were game to take part!

Thrillbilly Stomp played great bush dance tunes and all the dances were called so there was no excuse not to join in. Although many of us got confused and danced in opposite directions, it all worked out and we ended up laughing and loving it!

 On to other things. The other day I saw B.P Pete and he asked me how you get to Wadeville.  Click here for the Directions     If you've understood these directions we'll see you there. If you prefer Map directions you can  go to http://maps.google.com.au/ and use the "Get directions" link from there as well as an alternative.

 The piece of tab we have this time in the Tab & Sheet Music Page is the first mandolin melody from the  "Hairlip Chicken" It's easy to play and sounds pretty cool. As always if you have any questions just let us know.  Till next time cheers, Bill.

April 2008 -  How's it all going? We had a great time in Canberra, saw some great performances and had some good jams. The master class with Mike Compton was great. We invested in a woodskin drum while we were down there which we've used once at the last Bangalow gig. It has a bass drum and snare drum sound which can be operated with the feet so it's perfect for us. At the last Wadeville gig Billy came along and he had had a problem with one of the cds he had purchased. If anybody else has a problem with their cds let us know and we can send a replacement. The piece of music this month is another little groove we sometimes jam on in the Monday night guitar class. Till next month. Cheers Bill.

P.s    A Big Thank you to Lenny Howden for the dvd he made for us at Wadeville .

==================

March 2008 - This month we're off to the National Folk Festival in Canberra. We
have a couple of gigs locally before we go (check the Gig Guide ).
The Slipway gig is now starting at 8.00 pm and goes to 11.00 pm, no
longer the old 6.30 start.

On the Tab & SheetMusic Page this month is a simple three part
groove in E major for Guitar. Hope you enjoy. Till next month Cheers. Bill.

==================

February 2008 - This month we have another traditional tune on the sheet music page called "Cripple Creek". It's a nice little finger picking guitar arrangement with alternating bass line. For all the people who were at the Slipway on the 18th of January we now have the photos up on the Stompers Gallery page. You look like one of the happiest groups of people I've ever seen. Feel free to drop us a line if you've got any questions about playing the tunes or whatever. Till next month Cheers. Bill.

==================

December 2007 - December ended on a good note with a trip up to the Woodford Folk Festival to play with the Blues Skillet Rovers. The power blew up halfway through the first gig but the Rovers being an acoustic act just jumped down on the dancefloor and we finished the gig there. It was a real hoot.   Highlight for us at Woodford was the Greencards joined by Rod Macormack. What a band. The mandolin playing of Kym Warner blew us away.    In March We're headed down to Canberra for the National Folk Festival where I'll be attending some Mandolin Master Classes with Mike Compton, mandolinist on the "Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack and "Down from the Mountain" concert dvd. Looking forward to it. Till next month cheers Bill
