Bill Bradney

Long before I ever played an instrument I wrote songs. The first one I can remember singing my parents when I was about seven years old was about running away from home. I don't think they were too impressed. Me and local kids were always trying to form a band even though we didn't' have any instruments or musical knowledge. We'd bang rocks together, shake tree branches, anything to get a sound going and make up songs.

At about eleven years old an old lady started teaching guitar in our area. We were given a guitar to learn on and if  you completed the whole course (which went for about a year) you were given a guitar of your own to keep . That's where I learnt to read music and get a start with a musical education which eventually led to a degree in Music Composition at Southern Cross University in Lismore.

Through the years, I have played so many different styles and in so many bands it's hard to keep count. The thing I love about music is that it is an ever unfolding mystery. Only a fool would ever think they could know it all.

Thrillbilly Stomp is another step on the journey. We started as a Mandolin and Accordion Duo. Part of the challenge was to find a sound we could develop and feel comfortable with. Bit by but it is coming together and we are becoming aware of more and more possibilities.

My other love with music is teaching, which is surprising to me as I never thought I would enjoy it. I've had the pleasure of teaching some great students both past and present and I think I have learnt more from them than I have taught them. Till we meet.

Cheers, Bill
